I teach fifth grade language arts and social studies at a rural Connecticut school, in the same town where I grew up and am raising my family. I stayed home with my five children until the youngest was in school full time, and began my teaching career in third grade. Last year I made the exciting move to fifth grade and narrowed my focus to reading, writing, and social studies.
I believe that every child can learn, and that my job is to inspire and guide my students. I work hard to match students with books they will love to read, to help them become great writers, and to equip them to become self-directed learners by providing them with opportunities to be successful. I consider it a privilege to be able to combine the subjects that I teach, allowing students to understand that learning is not compartmentalized.
Outside of school, I love being with my family, and watching my kids play baseball (and soccer, and basketball...). We enjoy music together, and making pizza in our outdoor wood-fired pizza oven with friends and family. I love to travel, and have been to several countries including Canada, Mexico, France, Costa Rica (where out oldest daughter lives), and Guatemala, where we support an orphanage and an impoverished community of people living in the city dump.
